With the end of the school year, a wonderful educational experience also came to a close, involving students and teaching staff from the Russell Newton institute in a journey to discover biodiversity and the origins of our crops.
The initiative, carried out within the framework of the COUSIN Project in collaboration with the partner Rete Semi Rurali, began with a series of classroom sessions focused on key topics such as the importance of biodiversity, crop wild relatives, plant domestication, and the origins of the crops that are part of our food systems today.
The students then took part in a field trip to the hills surrounding Scandicci, where they had the opportunity to observe wild plant species related to cultivated crops, gaining first-hand experience of the concepts explored during the lessons.

The project continued with the creation of comics inspired by these themes as part of a dedicated competition. While prizes were awarded to the top three entries, a special round of applause goes to all the students who participated with enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment.
The comics were also showcased during the “72 Ore di Biodiversità” festival, giving the young authors the opportunity to present their work to a wider audience.
The award ceremony took place on June 8 at the school auditorium, marking the conclusion of a journey filled with discoveries, learning, and memorable experiences.
Congratulations to all the students for their outstanding work, and sincere thanks to the teaching staff and school leadership for their valuable collaboration and enthusiasm throughout the entire project.
