Protecting genetic resources in Europe: the article of EU CAP NETWORK

Oct 18, 2024 | Generic Press, news, Publications

Protection of agricultural genetic resources is essential to maintain biodiversity and enables species to adapt to climate and environmental changes.

EU funds, particularly the CAP, can play an important role in supporting this goal (think of the Farm to Fork strategy or the 2030 Biodiversity Plan, designed to protect nature and reverse ecosystem degradation).

The article written by EU CAP Network looks at international and EU level policy developments in protecting genetic resources and reviews stakeholder-led projects and initiatives.
Among the many interesting projects described is COUSIN (together with its two sister projects, Pro-Wild and Fruitdiv), reported for their conservation goals of crop wild relatives.

An interesting read to learn about EU strategies and activities on this issue that is so important for our future!
