On February 25, Florence will host a study day entitled “Management and use of plant germplasm and microbial collections for the protection and economic enhancement of agrobiodiversity”.
Organized by the Southeast and Southwest sections of the Accademia dei Georgofili, the event is dedicated to collections of plant and microbial genetic resources, with the aim of exploring their potential use in biotechnology, agri-food, and the environment, discussing the main critical issues and challenges, from economic sustainability to data digitization, regulatory compliance, and international cooperation.
Among the many speakers, Ferdinando Branca of the University of Catania, a COUSIN partner, will talk about the importance of crop wild relatives for improving the resilience of horticultural crops.
The event will be held in Italian at the historic Accademia dei Georgofili (Logge Uffizi Corti, Firenze), from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
