COUSIN video – #5: The Crop Wild Relatives Conservation Strategies explained

“The Crop Wild Relatives Conservation Strategies explained” is the fifth and last video in a series designed and produced by the COUSIN to explore the history, characteristics, and potential of CWRs.

Crop Wild Relatives are a vital source of genetic diversity for future food security, and their conservation must be prioritised.

Effective strategies combine in situ protection, supported by distribution mapping, ecogeographic data and species distribution modelling, with ex situ conservation through targeted seed collection in gene banks. Coordinating these approaches through trans situ conservation helps preserve representative genetic diversity across crop families, ensuring that CWRs remain available for future generations.
